Joyrider’s creative mastermind and senior storyteller is Gábor Krigler.
Gábor started his career in writing for TV two decades ago with the Australian-German Grundy-UFA, launching its first daily drama series for Hungary’s RTL Klub. During his years on Barátok közt, the show’s ratings skyrocketed and it soon became the broadcaster’s flagship production.
After three years as a storyliner, Gábor was promoted to lead writer and he supervised the story team for fifty episodes before going it alone in order to write the first ever Hungarian manual on screenwriting and teach the subject at such institutions as the Budapest University of Theatre and Film Arts, the Budapest Media Institute and the Central European University. He then went on to found Fade In Script Consulting, which specialized in providing advisory services for TV projects and feature films. During these years, he attended a number of international screenwriting and filmmaking workshops, including the Torino Film Lab, ScriptEast, the Mediterranean Film Institute and the Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing.
In January 2011, Gábor was hired by HBO Europe as a creative executive in the Budapest office of their Local Original Programming department. For the following eight years, he produced a season of TV drama annually and developed at least another two dozen projects encompassing a variety of genres and styles. Each of his shows – three seasons of In Treatment, two seasons of When Shall We Kiss and three seasons of Golden Life – received both critical acclaim and sensational ratings in Hungary, with Golden Life achieving recognition throughout Europe and even premiering in the USA on HBO. In 2016, Gábor helped to set up original programming for HBO’s Adria region. Ever enthusiastic to extend his skills and knowledge, in this period he participated in projects such as the European TV Drama Lab (2014) and the Showrunner Exchange in Los Angeles (2017). He was also invited to speak at international events.
Since 2017 Gábor has been Head of Studies at the prestigious Midpoint TV Launch, an international idea-to-marketplace training programme for TV drama. He also continues to lecture and provide consultancy for, among others, the Serial Eyes programme of the DFFB and the Brussels Series Lab.
